I Day of Kazbegi Tour in Georgia

 

Tour starts with early dispatch from hotel located in Kutaisi. After bypassing Tbilisi, Capital of Georgia, journey continuous in direction to North Georgia. As you drive along the Georgian Military Highway, it is impossible to miss the amazingly scenic ensemble of Ananuri fortified castle of XVII century. Ananuri was seat of the Dukes of Aragvi, a feudal dynasty which ruled the area from the 13th century. The castle was the scene of numerous battles. Tour continuous to village Sno, the home of the Patriarch of the Georgian Orthodox Church. There is a small church in the courtyard of the residence and a tower fortification from the XVI century. After leaving Sno, Group enters Gudauri winter resort and sooner arrive at town Stepanstminda, previously referred to as Kazbegi. Stepantsminda Historic Museum is located in the memorial house of the Georgian writer Alexander Kazbegi (1848-1890). Together with the library and personal belongings of the writer, the museum houses ethnographic artifacts typical of the Khevi region; archaeological exhibits; religious relics; books, and various works from local artists.

 

II Day of Kazbegi Tour in Georgia

 

Day starts with hiking to Gergeti Trinity Church. The church is situated on the right bank of the river Chkheri at an elevation of 2170 meters, under Mount Kazbegi.It is is built in the 14th century, and is the only cross-cupola church in Khevi province. Its isolated location on top of a steep mountain surrounded by the vastness of nature has made it a symbol for Georgia. The church is a popular waypoint for trekkers in the area, and can be reached by a steep 3 hour climb up the mountain, or around 30 minutes by jeep up a rough mountain trail. Tour continuous to the Dariali Gorge, it is an impossibly steep cleft in the mountains connecting Russia and Georgia. This mountain passage has been strategically crucial, and has been fortified since at least 150 BC. Medieval watchtowers, waterfalls and wildlife make this one of the most incredible roads in the world. On the way to Kutaisi we stop at Bazaleti Lake. After an hour of sightseeing group dispatches to Kutaisi.
